Procedure
Being a member of a Youth City Council is a real job that requires time, listening, concentration and, above all, imagination. Newly elected members learn about their town, the urban community and the local and community services which will help them in their projects during their term of office.Â
The primary mission of the Youth City Council is to define its operating procedures within the following framework:
- Period of activity: from September to June
- Mandatory attendance at CMJ meetings
- One meeting each quarter, so a minimum of three meetings during each school year
Meetings may be directed by a President and a Secretary, both roles being voluntarily interchangeable so as to involve as many teenagers as possible in the course of their responsibilities.
Operational procedures
- Minutes of each session, written by the Secretary, are posted in schools, youth centres and at the Town Hall.
- There is no teenage Mayor
- All ideas submitted are from the youths themselves, following extensive and well-thought discussions among themselves alone
- Commitment to the Town Council Â
Members’ dutiesÂ
- Show diligence
- Respect the opinion of others
- Work as a team
- Report works by the CMJ to colleagues
- Act like a citizen and carry responsibility
- Inform the CMJ representative in case of unavailability
- Be the representative of the youths of the town
